Ulysse Nardin was born in Le Locle, Switzerland in
1823.Following in his father's footsteps, he trained
as a "remonteur" and eventually set up his own workshop.
In 1846, he founded the Ulysse Nardin Company. This move
was the beginning of an enterprise that has lasted more than
150 years. His early watches displayed high quality craftsmanship
and were all signed by their maker.
Nardin's first watches were sold in Central and South America by a Paris go-between, Lucien Dubois, who was Nardin's only customer for two years. The Guinness Book of Records even acknowledges the Ulysse Nardin as the most functional mechanical
watch in the entire world, which at any one time can boast up to different 21 functions.
Historically Ulysse Nardin was best known for being a manufacturer of marine chronometers, but today is known for producing complicated mechanical watches.
Ulysse Nardin, in close cooperation with the European company, SCI Innovations,
has also created a one-of-kind mobile telephone called the Ulysse Nardin Chairman.
In fact, the Chairman is the first mechanical telephone to be made in the world!
